Rowan Atkinson to speak at screening of new Amnesty International film
A special screening of a BBC Arena documentary is being held at the Prince Charles Cinema in London on December 2 by Amnesty International to mark the 25th anniversary of The Secret Policeman’s Ball, the organisation’s ground-breaking comedy show.
Featuring original cast members, including John Cleese, Sir Bob Geldof, Alan Bennett, Jennifer Saunders, Stephen Fry, Terry Jones, Terry Gilliam, Ruby Wax, Lenny Henry, Sting, Phil Collins, and Rowan Atkinson, the film examines this landmark comedy event, with interviews and recollections of the original stars alongside classic comedy moments.
Rowan Atkinson and other comedy stars will take part in an audience Q&A following the screening, along with the filmmakers. The original film of the ‘Secret Policeman’s Ball’ is then being screened as part of a double-bill. The event is followed a week later by the film’s UK television premiere on BBC Four and a BBC Two screening in 2005.
‘Remember the Secret Policeman’s Ball?’ was made by the award winning team of Films of Record producer Roger Graef (who made the first three Amnesty films) and director Margaret Kinmonth, for BBC Arena.
Roger’s original film of The Secret Policeman’s Ball was itself a breakthrough success on television, in the cinema, on video, and now on DVD.
