Award-winning filmmaker to co-ordinate short film production scheme

The Northern Ireland Film and Television Commission have contracted Make Films Ltd to provide the Production Executive Service for three of its short film schemes in 2004 - 2005.
Hugh McGrory will act as the Production Executive on behalf of Make Films for the Home, Short Steps and Deviate film schemes. McGrory, an award-winning Director/Producer, will bring unique experience to this position. McGrory’s film making has won a number of awards including a Belfast Arts Award and Belfast Film Festival Awards for his NIFTC-funded short film ‘The Rules Of Golf’ in 2000 and the Best Irish Short award (joint) for ‘Getting Close’ in 1998 at the Foyle Film Festival. His recent production ‘Within Without’ premiered at Galway and will screen at the Belfast Festival at Queens and the Foyle Film Festival.
McGrory also has experience in teaching filmmaking at Queen’s University Belfast and the Gaiety School of Acting, Dublin.
Series Two of Short Steps, the short film development scheme, and Deviate, the short film production scheme, are financed by Belfast City Council, the UK Film Council and the NIFTC.
Short Steps offers an opportunity for up to twelve of Northern Ireland’s new and emerging filmmaking teams to develop outline ideas for short digital films, intended primarily for cinema screens, internet and DVD distribution, of up to five minutes in length. The eight best projects developed through Short Steps will be selected to go into production under Deviate, the short film production scheme, from March 2005.
The deadline for completed applications is 12pm Friday November 5 2004.
