LYNX Technik Launches yellobrik CDE 1923 SDI-To-IP Converter

News Image
LYNX Technik has introduced the yellobrik CDE 1923, a bi-directional 3G-SDI to SMPTE ST 2110 converter designed to simplify the integration of baseband and IP infrastructures in hybrid broadcast environments.

The new converter is aimed at broadcast facilities, outside broadcast trucks, production studios and other media operations transitioning from traditional SDI workflows to IP-based production. Building on the existing CDE 1922 platform, the CDE 1923 retains bi-directional SDI-to-IP and IP-to-SDI conversion while adding dedicated reference input and output connections to support synchronisation across both environments.

The additional interfaces address a key challenge in hybrid broadcast systems, where traditional SDI equipment typically relies on physical reference signals, while SMPTE ST 2110 networks use Precision Time Protocol (PTP) based on the SMPTE ST 2059 profile.

The CDE 1923’s reference input allows its SDI output to lock directly to a facility’s local reference, enabling alignment with other equipment operating within an established baseband timing system.

Its reference output can generate a Tri-Level Sync signal derived from SMPTE ST 2059 PTP. The converter can also up-convert an incoming synchronisation signal to Tri-Level Sync at a higher frame rate, providing a physical reference for connected SDI equipment.

According to LYNX Technik, the additional connectivity was developed in response to customer feedback and is designed to provide greater flexibility when integrating SDI equipment into ST 2110 infrastructures without increasing the converter’s footprint or adding unnecessary system complexity.

By combining bi-directional 3G-SDI and SMPTE ST 2110 conversion with flexible reference connectivity, the yellobrik CDE 1923 is designed to help broadcasters maintain synchronisation between baseband and IP systems as they transition towards IP-based production workflows.
