LYNX Technik Introduces PVD 5440 DO

LYNX Technik has announced the PVD 5440 DO, a new frame synchronizer and multi-format video processor aimed at broadcast and professional production applications.

The Series 5000 card combines frame synchronization, video conversion, motion-adaptive de-interlacing, and audio embedding and de-embedding in a single 12G-SDI platform.

At the core of the PVD 5440 DO is LYNX Technik’s Up/Down/Cross (UPXD) processing engine. The system incorporates motion-adaptive de-interlacing followed by diagonal interpolation, designed to preserve image detail while reducing common interlacing artifacts around diagonal edges and moving objects.

The processing engine supports conversion across a broad range of broadcast formats, including resolution and frame-rate conversion. Additional video processing functions include crop and zoom, horizontal image flipping, and an integrated test pattern generator. The card can automatically switch to the test pattern when the input signal is lost.

For synchronization, the PVD 5440 DO supports both frame and line synchronization to bi-level and tri-level references, with automatic reference detection. If the external reference is lost, the card can continue operating in free-run mode, with an optional latch-back function allowing it to return to reference timing when the signal is restored. Independent video and audio delay controls provide additional timing flexibility.

Audio processing is supported across 12G-SDI, MADI and AES interfaces. The card features a 136x200 audio crossbar and supports up to 64 audio channels over 12G-SDI, 64-channel MADI input and output, as well as four AES audio channels in and four out.

Audio channels can be routed, swapped, muted, mixed and gain-adjusted, while integrated monitoring functions can detect audio presence, silence and overload conditions. Dolby audio can also be passed transparently within the SDI signal, although the card does not decode or process Dolby audio.

On the video side, the PVD 5440 DO features one 12G-SDI input and four 12G-SDI outputs, with one output configurable for loop-through operation. Optional fiber connectivity is available through a range of SFP modules supporting transmitter, receiver and transceiver configurations. These include single-mode, multi-mode and CWDM operation, with up to 18 wavelength options.

Two GPI inputs provide remote control over functions including input switching, video freeze and test-pattern activation.

System configuration, monitoring and status management are handled through LYNX Technik's LynxCentraal control platform, which provides graphical access to the card’s video, audio, synchronization and system parameters.

The PVD 5440 DO is designed for the company’s Series 5000 platform, bringing video synchronization and conversion together with extensive audio routing and processing capabilities in a single card for broadcast and media production environments.
