AFP And Dalet Partner On Content Provenance
Agence France-Presse (AFP) and media technology provider Dalet have announced a partnership aimed at strengthening content provenance and authenticity across the news media ecosystem.
The collaboration was unveiled at the Media Provenance Summit in Bergen, Norway, and will focus on integrating the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) standard into video encoding and distribution workflows.
AFP brings experience from its early work applying C2PA to editorial content, including a real-world proof of concept conducted by its photo department during the 2024 US presidential election. Dalet contributes more than three decades of experience supporting the production, management and distribution workflows used by news organisations.
The two companies will work together to develop a fully functional proof of concept demonstrating how a news agency can apply C2PA Content Credentials to video and deliver it to broadcasters with a verifiable record of its origin and history.
The proof of concept is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2027.
The partnership comes as news organisations face growing challenges around content authenticity and the increasing use of AI-generated media. Dalet said it is promoting an approach in which trust, governance and human oversight are embedded throughout the content lifecycle.
Integrating provenance information into operational workflows is intended to give editorial teams greater visibility into the history of content while maintaining the speed required for modern news production.
The planned C2PA implementation will allow provenance information to accompany video through encoding and distribution, providing broadcasters with a verifiable record of content origin and its history.
