Aragón TV Overhauls Studios

Aragón TV, the regional network based in Zaragoza, Spain, has completed a significant upgrade of its studio infrastructure.

To bring the latest automation and prompting technology into its workflows, the broadcaster worked with Videndum Production Solutions' Madrid-based dealer, Moncada y Lorenzo, commissioning Vinten robotic camera systems alongside Autoscript teleprompters and software.

Vinten's package of robotic heads, height drives and pedestals was chosen to give operators precise, repeatable control of camera movement and positioning, delivering smooth, dynamic shots across a range of programme formats. In parallel, Autoscript's IP-based WinPlus-IP prompting software underpins a facility-wide control architecture that improves workflow flexibility, centralises management and adds robust, failsafe redundancy for live output. In studio, EPIC-IP prompters combine talent and prompting displays to streamline the presenter experience.

A highlight of the deployment is the integration of the StarTracker optical tracking system within Vinten’s FH-155VR robotic heads. The built-in StarTracker camera references reflective stickers on the studio ceiling to deliver accurate, real-time positional data without the need to add separate tracking hardware, providing a compact and elegant solution.

The broadcaster's Studio 3, at around 400 square metres and primarily used for news, now features a large LED wall and advanced augmented reality to enrich storytelling. It is equipped with four Vinten FP-188+ robotic pedestals and four FH-155VR StarTracker robotic heads. The system also supports manual operation when required, giving the production team flexibility for more dynamic shows. Completing the camera configurations are four EPIC-IP19XL teleprompters, which pair a 19-inch prompt monitor with an integrated 24-inch talent feedback screen. Each unit includes CLOCKPLUS-IP for clear time, tally and camera number display to the presenter.

Studio 4, approximately 100 square metres and dedicated to virtual productions, employs Vinten FE-165 Height Drives to deliver exceptionally smooth robotic elevation where XY movement is unnecessary. The compact setup still benefits from encoded tracking for virtual reality applications and the wider advantages of robotic automation.

The revamped environment is built to interoperate with third-party systems. Vinten robotics integrate seamlessly with Brainstorm and Avid Maestro graphics engines to enhance AR workflows, while Autoscript’s WinPlus-IP receives instant script updates from the facility's iNews NRCS. Tally over IP is provided via a Tallyman server for both robotics and prompting systems.
