AMWA And EBU To Demonstrate Interoperable NMOS Status Reporting

The Advanced Media Workflow Association (AMWA) and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) are bringing together a group of broadcast technology suppliers at IBC 2026 to demonstrate interoperable implementations of NMOS BCP-008 Minimum Status Reporting.

Taking place from September 11-14, the demonstrations will be hosted on the EBU stand (10.D21) and will focus on how BCP-008 can provide broadcast operators with a consistent view of device health across multi-vendor IP environments.

As broadcasters continue to migrate to IP-based infrastructures, operations teams are increasingly required to manage large numbers of alarms generated by equipment from different vendors. BCP-008 is designed to provide a standardized approach to status reporting, helping operators distinguish between routine conditions and issues that require immediate attention.

The live demonstrations will feature products from multiple manufacturers reporting status consistently across a multi-vendor IP environment. The initiative is intended to show how standardized status information can help operators identify problems more quickly and streamline fault resolution.

Participating companies are Arkona, DirectOut, EVS, Leader, Nevion, Pebble, Providius, Riedel, Simplexity and Sony.

The participating companies have been preparing their BCP-008 implementations to operate together ahead of the event. Prior to IBC2026, representatives will meet at EVS facilities in Belgium for a hands-on interoperability event to validate their implementations before deploying the systems at the show in Amsterdam.

BCP-008 complements NMOS connection management by providing devices from different manufacturers with a standardized method of communicating operational status. The approach is designed to allow equipment to report conditions directly, helping operators identify faults and differentiate them from routine status information.

At IBC2026, the demonstrations will cover a range of common operational issues, including packet loss, link disconnections, packet jitter, changes to the PTP grandmaster, stream validation errors and other potential faults encountered in IP-based broadcast environments.

The initiative is intended to demonstrate how standardized status reporting can complement existing NMOS connection management and help broadcasters manage increasingly complex IP facilities.

AMWA and the EBU say the demonstrations also reflect the wider industry push towards open standards and greater interoperability between broadcast technology suppliers. The participation of multiple manufacturers is intended to provide a practical example of how common specifications can be implemented across different products and systems.

Visitors to IBC2026 will be able to see the demonstrations throughout the show on the EBU stand (10.D21), meet participating companies and explore how standardized status reporting can help simplify operations across IP-based broadcast facilities.
