TNDV Marks First Year Of Aspiration 35
TNDV is celebrating the first anniversary of Aspiration 35, its mobile production truck built around ARRI Alexa 35 Live camera systems, following a year of high-profile broadcast, live entertainment and theatrical productions.
The company said the vehicle, described as the industry's first mobile production truck purpose-built for ARRI Alexa 35 Live systems, has been used on a range of productions since its launch last summer. These include the nationally televised Stand Up To CancerĀ® fundraising special, the production of KIDZ BOP Live: The Concert Movie, which was released in cinemas earlier this year, and the Unity Concert for America, held in Philadelphia as part of the United States' 250th anniversary celebrations and broadcast locally by WPVI-TV.
TNDV attributed the platform's early success to its experience in live production and its partnership with Nashville-based dbV Rentals, which provides access to ARRI camera systems, cinema lenses and technical support.
"When we introduced Aspiration 35, our goal wasn't simply to build another production truck," said Rob Devlin, President of TNDV. "We wanted to create a purpose-built cinematic production platform backed by the people, workflows and partnerships that allow clients to confidently tackle the industry's most demanding productions. One year later, we've proven that vision across live network broadcasts, theatrical releases and large-scale concert productions."
The Aspiration 35 truck was recently deployed for the Unity Concert for America, produced by ESM Productions in Philadelphia. The production featured a 10-camera ARRI Alexa 35 Live set-up, including specialist camera positions, robotic camera systems and Fujinon Duvo lenses, to capture performances by artists including Will Smith and The Roots.
Alongside the local television broadcast, TNDV delivered live streams across multiple online platforms while also supplying an in-house IMAG feed for the venue's large stage displays.
Unlike conventional outside broadcast units developed primarily for sports and television coverage, Aspiration 35 integrates ARRI Alexa 35 Live multicamera systems with production infrastructure including camera shading, intercom, tally, return video and recording systems, enabling cinematic image quality alongside the speed and reliability required for live productions.
The company's partnership with dbV Rentals also gives productions access to an extensive inventory of cinema lenses and camera accessories, supported by specialist technical staff.
"The technology is certainly important, but what really makes this partnership successful is the experience behind it," said Doug Bates, Owner of dbV Rentals. "Rob and the TNDV team understand live production inside and out, while we bring decades of experience supporting cinematographers with the right camera systems and lens packages for every creative vision. Together we've created a workflow that gives clients confidence from the earliest planning stages through the final shot."
Over its first year, Aspiration 35 has been used across a variety of production environments, from live network television to feature-quality concert films. TNDV said the platform had demonstrated its ability to combine traditional broadcast workflows with cinematic production standards.
"Anyone can purchase cameras or build a truck," Devlin added. "What ultimately determines success is the team behind it. Our engineers have spent more than two decades solving complex live production challenges, and when you combine that experience with Doug's deep knowledge of digital cinema systems and optics, clients gain access to far more than equipment. They gain a complete production ecosystem built to deliver exceptional results."
