ARRI Launches ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme

ARRI has introduced the ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme, a new addition to its Multicam System that brings high frame rate (HFR) output of up to 8x to live productions using traditional SDI workflows.

Designed for live entertainment, sports and broadcast applications, the new camera combines ARRI’s cinematic image quality with the creative possibilities of slow-motion capture, allowing producers and directors to enhance live coverage while maintaining established baseband production workflows.

The ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme comes with permanent licenses for 8x HFR output in HD and 2x HFR output in UHD. When paired with ARRI’s Live Production System LPS-1, including the LPS-1 Fiber Camera Adapter and Fiber Base Station, and a standard slow-motion replay server such as SimplyLive or EVS, the camera can deliver high frame rate feeds directly into live production environments.

The system supports up to 4x HFR through a single SDI connection, while higher frame rates are split across both SDI outputs. Frame rates up to 330 fps maintain the camera’s full 17-stop dynamic range, while Sensor Overdrive mode enables capture up to 480 fps with an 11-stop dynamic range.

Alongside the slow-motion output, the camera simultaneously provides a live broadcast feed, enabling operators to switch between programme frame rates and HFR content in real time. A phase-blending feature also provides control over motion blur and shutter effects in live feeds.

ARRI said the ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme builds on growing adoption of its Multicam System among broadcasters seeking to improve image quality and creative flexibility in live productions. The system was recently used for the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, where ARRI cameras contributed to enhanced image quality and colour control for one of the world’s largest live broadcasts.

Featuring a Super 35 sensor, high dynamic range, sensitivity and ARRI’s colour science, the ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme is designed to provide a cinematic look for live applications. Users can select from ARRI Look Library options, use dedicated Multicam looks or create their own LUTs, while traditional live painting workflows remain available.

Sports broadcasting is expected to be a key application area, with the camera designed to support coverage of indoor and outdoor events, individual competitions and team sports. ARRI said the system’s wide dynamic range will help capture high-contrast environments, while its slow-motion capabilities allow broadcasters to deliver decisive moments with the same visual style as the main live feed.

The camera is also aimed at live concerts and fashion events, where its sensitivity, resolution and colour reproduction can help capture complex lighting environments, detailed textures and accurate skin tones.

ARRI said seamless integration into existing production environments was central to the design of the ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme. Engineers, operators, shaders and directors can continue working within familiar workflows, with the LPS-1 Fiber Base Station connecting directly to slow-motion servers to make HFR signals available through standard broadcast infrastructure.

The ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme joins the ALEXA 35 Live in ARRI’s broadcast camera lineup. ALEXA 35 Live cameras sold from 2026 onwards can be upgraded to Xtreme functionality through the purchase of High Speed and HFR SDI Licenses from the ARRI online shop, while earlier ALEXA 35 Live cameras require a hardware upgrade through ARRI service centres.

Additional upgrade options will also allow ALEXA 35 cinema cameras to be adapted for multi-camera broadcast applications.
