Skyline Communications Integrates DataMiner

News Image
Skyline Communications has announced a new integration between its DataMiner xOps platform and the AWS Elemental MediaConnect Router, enabling broadcasters and media companies to manage cloud-native live video routing through a unified operational environment.

The integration combines AWS cloud infrastructure with DataMiner’s MediaOps framework, providing broadcast-style routing control and operational management for live video workflows running entirely in the cloud.

According to Skyline Communications, the solution allows operators to manage live video routing across AWS global infrastructure while maintaining the operational workflows and control models commonly used in traditional broadcast environments.

The AWS Elemental MediaConnect Router enables media organisations to dynamically route live video streams between sources and destinations within the AWS network, eliminating the limitations of static point-to-point connections and enabling real-time switching across regions without the need to reconfigure infrastructure.

DataMiner adds an operational layer on top of the MediaConnect Router APIs, providing features including XY routing panels for real-time signal switching, scheduled routing operations and geographic service monitoring across multiple AWS regions.

The companies said the integration addresses a key challenge facing broadcasters as they migrate to cloud-based infrastructures: maintaining the reliability and responsiveness of traditional routing systems while benefiting from the scalability of cloud environments.

The solution supports SRT, RTP and RIST protocols across AWS’s private global network backbone, enabling broadcasters to route contribution feeds from distributed locations through a centralised cloud-based routing architecture.

"We're proud to continue our long-term collaboration with AWS Elemental," said Thomas Gunkel, Global Market Director Broadcast at Skyline Communications. "This integration bridges scheduled and real-time operations and delivers far more than a traditional routing scheduler. Built on DataMiner’s MediaOps framework, it combines broadcast-style XY control with orchestration intelligence, ensuring resources are allocated and reserved at booking time while protecting live operations from conflicts. The solution is designed to be easily extended to dynamically create and retire sources and destinations in line with event schedules, enabling a truly elastic, cloud-based operational model as production needs evolve."

Skyline Communications said the platform has been designed for multi-region deployments and is intended to support applications including sports production, news contribution, linear distribution and disaster recovery.

The company added that the integration allows broadcasters to scale cloud resources according to operational demand while aligning infrastructure usage with FinOps strategies, reducing unnecessary cloud expenditure and avoiding the physical limitations associated with traditional routing systems.
