izzi Speeds Fibre Rollout In Mexico With Harmonic's Virtualised Broadband Platform

Harmonic announced that izzi, Mexico's largest multiple-system operator (MSO) and a subsidiary of the Televisa Group, has selected the company's cOS virtualised broadband platform as part of a strategic fibre build to deliver reliable connectivity to residential and business customers nationwide.

"Bringing fiber to our broadband service areas is an ambitious initiative that allows our subscribers to enjoy blazing-fast internet speeds, rock-solid reliability and access to next-generation services", said Israel Madiedo, Director of Innovation and Technology at izzi. "Harmonic's innovative solutions, proven expertise, market stability and unwavering support are essential to ensuring our smooth transition to fiber. This evolution is key as we launch new service offerings and lead the broadband transformation in Mexico."

As part of the deployment, izzi is adopting Remote OLT technologies, pairing Harmonic's cOS platform with Pearl Remote Optical Line Termination (R-OLT) modules housed in Oyster outdoor compact node enclosures. The set-up is designed to streamline the migration to fibre while reducing hardware needs and delivering power, space and cost savings, with claims of industry-leading power consumption and PON port density.

Harmonic has integrated izzi's preferred third-party ONTs under its Open ONT strategy, aimed at lowering total cost of ownership by avoiding vendor lock-in and giving izzi the flexibility to choose CPE devices that best meet its needs. By improving operational efficiency, leveraging existing infrastructure and trimming CPE costs, Harmonic says it is helping to reduce typical network investment for fibre rollouts.

To hasten the multi-year, phased programme and minimise service disruption, Harmonic is also providing engineering expertise alongside supply-chain and field resources. The broadband solutions are tailored to izzi's technical and operational requirements to optimise performance and align with the operator's service objectives.

"The initiative marks a significant milestone in the partnership between izzi and Harmonic, strengthening our collaboration and driving long-term value for subscribers and communities across Mexico," said Nimrod Ben-Natan, President and CEO at Harmonic. "Powered by software, our market-leading broadband solutions will enable izzi to build the foundation for sustained innovation and subscriber satisfaction."

According to Harmonic, its cOS platform today supports next-generation broadband services across more than 41 million CPE devices globally, spanning operators in North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia.

Harmonic will showcase its fibre broadband innovations at Mobile World Congress from 2–5 March in the MIRO room. Further details on the company's offerings are available at www.harmonicinc.com/broadband/solutions/fiber-for-telcos.
