TiMax x Sonosphere Launches Europe's First Martin Audio-Based Dolby Atmos Studio
TiMax x Sonosphere has confirmed that its flagship studio at London’s Tileyard has been commissioned by Dolby engineer Richard Addis and is now featured on the Dolby Atmos Professional global directory. The facility becomes only the second Dolby Atmos studio worldwide to be built around Martin Audio’s FlexPoint system, and the first of its kind in Europe.
Departing from typical Atmos rooms that use conventional nearfield monitors, the studio adopts Martin Audio FlexPoint PA loudspeakers in a 9.1.6 layout. This choice is intended to close the gap between studio creation and live event delivery, offering a monitoring environment that mirrors how immersive mixes will translate in real venues.
"The decision to use professional PA speakers rather than traditional monitors is fundamental to our vision," explains Phil Wright, Sound Designer, Mix Engineer and Technical Director at Sonosphere. "We're not just creating content for playback in other studios; we're producing work that needs to scale from intimate listening rooms to major live venues. This room allows us to hear exactly what audiences will experience and make creative decisions accordingly."
At the core of the system is support for Audio Definition Model (ADM) files—the standard for Dolby Atmos—combined with TiMax’s third party OSC integration to upsize projects seamlessly for large-scale live sound systems. This ‘studio to stadium’ pipeline is being positioned as a world-first capability in the UK, and potentially beyond.
"This isn't just another studio, it's a resource for the entire industry." — Duncan Bell, Commercial Director, Sonosphere.
"The Sonosphere vision has always been to take 'small to big', and to create a workflow where content produced in the studio can be directly scaled for arenas, festivals, and immersive installations without compromise," says Duncan Bell, Commercial Director at Sonosphere. "As only the second Martin Audio-based Atmos studio in the world, we can now deliver and scale Atmos content produced in our studio to the myriad spaces our projects and clients demand. This isn't just about mixing in Atmos, it's about creating content that comes alive in any environment."
Beyond Atmos mixing, the space can expand to a 26.4.6 TiMax environment, anchored by TiMax SoundHub 2 for spatial audio and show control. A TiMax Tracker D4 system with eight sensors enables real-time object tracking and automation, while TiMax panLab streamlines spatial workflows for quicker creative decision-making.
Equipment from Focusrite Group sister brands features throughout, with power handled by Linea Research 88C06 amplifiers loaded with FlexPoint presets to ensure consistent performance and reliability.
Using TiMax as the spatial processor underlines the focus on flexibility and control. TiMax SoundHub 2 is designed to manage complex object-based audio, integrate show control, and crucially bridge studio production with live deployment—building on a global track record across theatre, music venues and installations.
The TiMax–Sonosphere collaboration fuses decades of spatial processing, tracking and show control expertise with Sonosphere’s specialism in immersive content creation for music, broadcast and live events.
"Together, the two companies provide a flexible, multi-purpose immersive audio London hub to demonstrate, educate, promote and deliver immersive audio systems, workflow and content," explains Bell. "This isn't just another studio, it's a resource for the entire industry. We're hosting workshops, demonstrations, panel discussions, and training sessions to share what we've learned and push the boundaries of what's possible in spatial audio."
The studio hosts accredited training programmes, hands-on demonstrations and opportunities for networking, hospitality and showcases, serving as a collaborative hub for the immersive audio community.
Specified and delivered by Sonosphere’s Phil Wright in strict alignment with Dolby DARDT guidelines, and calibrated by Dolby engineer Richard Addis, the room meets the standards required for professional Dolby Atmos production so that mixes translate accurately across delivery environments.
