ITV Commissions Psychological Drama Gone, Starring Eve Myles And David Morrissey
ITV has commissioned Gone, a six-part psychological drama from acclaimed screenwriter George Kay (The Long Shadow, Hijack, Lupin), with Eve Myles and David Morrissey leading the cast.
The series was ordered by ITV's Director of Drama Polly Hill and will be directed by BAFTA winner Richard Laxton (Mrs Wilson, Burton and Taylor, The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe, Joan).
Co-produced by New Pictures (an All3Media company) and George Kay's Observatory Pictures, and made in association with All3Media International, Gone unfolds across a prestigious private school, a brooding forest and the city of Bristol. Morrissey plays Michael Polly, the local headmaster who becomes the prime suspect after his wife Sarah vanishes.
An upstanding figure known for precision and control, Michael finds himself under the scrutiny of Detective Annie Cassidy, portrayed by Myles (The Crow Girl, Hijack, Torchwood). Their clash sparks a gripping cat-and-mouse investigation as Annie probes beneath Michael’s composed exterior.
Commented Eve Myles: "I'm thrilled to be playing Detective Annie Cassidy in George Kay's brilliantly written drama Gone. Annie is a fascinating character, intuitive, gutsy and doesn't suffer fools, but she has met her match in Michael Polly who is a formidable adversary played by David Morrissey. It's wonderful to be directed by Richard Laxton and I can't wait for the audience to see it."
Commented David Morrissey: "I'm delighted to be reunited with George Kay and the wonderful team at New Pictures. And to be working for the first time with the amazing Eve Myles and Richard Laxton."
As the case tightens, Annie grows more suspicious of Michael, unsettled by his lack of visible emotion. Her instincts tell her the surface story doesn’t add up. Could Michael be capable of murder – and if so, why?
The family stakes are heightened by the presence of Sarah and Michael’s daughter, Alana, played by Emma Appleton (The Road Trip, The Killing Kind, Lola), who teaches at the same school.
Beyond the central mystery, the drama interrogates trauma, trust and the influence of elite institutions.
The ensemble also includes Jennifer Macbeth, Arthur Hughes, Nicholas Nunn, Elliot Cowan, Billy Barratt, Rupert Evans, Jodie McNee, Oscar Batterham and Clare Higgins.
Kay is co-creator, writer and executive producer of the Emmy-nominated Hijack, and the creator-writer of Golden Globe and BAFTA-nominated Lupin. His credits also include BAFTA-winning The Long Shadow and Litvinenko (ITV/STV, with streaming on ITVX and STV Player), as well as the International Emmy-nominated Criminal.
Gone is created and written by George Kay and directed by Richard Laxton. The producer is Mark Hedges (Hanna, The Rising), with executive producers Kay, Willow Grylls (Des, The Missing) and Matt Sandford (The Long Shadow).
The fictional series is partly inspired by the book 'To Hunt a Killer' and by the work of respected former Detective Superintendent Julie Mackay (Gloucestershire Police) and ITV Crime Correspondent Robert Murphy, both of whom serve as consultants.
Gone is a New Pictures and Observatory Pictures co-production for ITV, with All3Media International handling global distribution. The series will air on ITV and STV and will stream on ITVX and STV Player.
