AWS Launches MediaConnect Router

AWS has announced the general availability of AWS Elemental MediaConnect Router, a new capability designed to give broadcasters and content providers far greater flexibility in routing live video across the AWS network.

The service allows users to dynamically direct live feeds between sources and destinations without reconfiguring infrastructure, significantly simplifying the management of complex live video workflows in the cloud.

AWS said the new router supports advanced use cases such as switching between primary and backup feeds, independently routing regional variants, and managing multiple simultaneous feeds for broader event coverage.

MediaConnect Router is engineered to optimise live content delivery across the AWS network, offering reduced transport latency and improved packet delivery reliability compared with standard transport methods. As a fully managed service, it supports routing between inputs and outputs in any supported AWS region, as well as between private and public endpoints, helping broadcasters cut operational overheads and avoid paying for unused capacity.

Users can access MediaConnect Router through the MediaConnect console, the MediaConnect API or AWS CDK. It can operate as a standalone service or integrate with existing MediaConnect flows. It also fits into wider video workflows built with AWS Elemental, the suite of media services used to process, monetise and deliver high-quality video at global scale.
