Free Firmware Adds Touchscreen Camera Control To Atomos Ninja TX Series

News Image
At InterBEE 2025, Atomos announced a major firmware release that introduces integrated camera control for its CFexpress-based monitor-recorders, the Ninja TX GO and Ninja TX.

The new capability will be shown on stand 8312 and is aimed at creators seeking greater flexibility and precision on set.

Using the devices' USB‑C ports, supported cameras from Canon, Fujifilm, Nikon, Panasonic, Sony, Z CAM and other leading brands can be operated directly from the larger Ninja touchscreen. Operators can start/stop recording, adjust core settings such as ISO, shutter, aperture and frame rate, and work more comfortably when the camera is rigged in tight or awkward positions.

"The camera control functionality introduced on our Shinobi II and Shinobi 7 RX monitors has been hugely popular, and our engineering team has made it an even better experience on the new Ninja TX GO and Ninja TX monitor-recorders," said Peter Barber, Atomos CEO. "The superior Ninja TX series onboard computer processing and Linux operating system give us the power to innovate faster and deliver more features to creators. This is a free update that makes it easier than ever to adjust camera settings, start shooting, and stay focused on the story, not the gear."

Both products feature a 5-inch, 1500‑nit HDR touchscreen that outclasses typical in‑camera displays, along with professional monitoring tools including EL Zone™, waveform, vectorscope and focus peaking to help fine‑tune framing, exposure and colour accuracy on set.

The Ninja TX series records to CFexpress Type B media or external USB‑C SSDs and supports Apple ProRes, ProRes RAW, Avid DNx and H.265/H.264, providing flexibility for a wide range of post‑production workflows.

Ninja TX GO is HDMI‑only and can capture up to 6Kp30 RAW from modern mirrorless and DSLR cameras. For users who need more advanced options, Ninja TX adds SDI input/output, AirGlu wireless timecode and expanded 8Kp30 RAW recording.

Built‑in Wi‑Fi enables camera‑to‑cloud workflows on both models, including 20GB of free cloud storage, direct upload to ATOMOSphere, Frame.io and Dropbox, as well as live streaming via NDI 6/HX3.

Availability: Firmware version 12.2.0 is rolling out now as a free, over‑the‑air update for Ninja TX GO and Ninja TX.
