Lightware Unveils HC60 Range In Major Upgrade To Taurus UCX Line
Lightware has announced a major refresh of its Taurus UCX product family with the launch of the new HC60 range.
The line represents a significant hardware upgrade to the existing HC40 models, prompted by recent technological advances and supply chain developments.
Under the move, every UCX-HC40 and DCX unit will be directly replaced with an HC60 equivalent, bringing the HC40 series to a full phase-out. While functionality and capabilities remain the same, the HC60 lineup promises greater product availability, long-term compatibility and enhanced performance.
"The new HC60 product lineup represents our commitment to anticipating the needs of tomorrow’s meeting rooms and learning environments," said Gergely Vida, CEO at Lightware. "With enhanced performance, simplified set-up and improved compatibility, integrators can save time while delivering better, future-proof experiences for end users."
The platform introduces several key upgrades, including enhanced video handling, a high-speed Gigabit Ethernet switch for quicker network performance, and updated connectivity featuring dual USB-C ports in place of the older USB-A interfaces. Support for Display Stream Compression (DSC) now enables 2-lane 4K@60 with minimal compression, increasing bandwidth, reliability and interoperability across modern AV environments.
Lightware has also revised factory defaults to improve security and streamline installation. All HC60 models now support 5K video output by default, delivering 5120×2160 resolution at 30 Hz 4:4:4 or 60 Hz 4:2:0 via HDMI 2.0. The units are HTTPS-enabled and feature improved signal handling, including HDMI 5V following input presence, HDCP disabled on inputs for easier integration, and USB and audio that track the active video source. Further enhancements include default LARA automation and a USB-C BYOD port set to Power Role: Source to maximise compatibility.
The HC60 platform is aimed at a broad range of applications, from corporate meeting rooms to educational environments. With faster networking, native USB-C peripheral support and 5K output, the system is positioned as a foundation for future-proof BYOD spaces. Schools and campuses, meanwhile, can benefit from simpler installation, improved USB audio management and ready-to-deploy LARA integration.
In a move designed to boost security, models such as the DCX-3x1-HC21 will ship with a factory-generated password printed on each unit. Devices revert to this unique password after a factory reset, preventing the removal of password-based protections. The change ensures compliance with the EU Cyber Resilience Act by eliminating universal default passwords, and Lightware plans to apply the same approach across other product families.
Because the HC60 series aligns fully with existing HC40 specifications, current tenders and public documentation remain valid without modification. Lightware’s Dual Screen Taurus products are the sole exception and will continue in their present form.
