brutal güet Rolls Out New IP OB Truck With Lawo Technology

News Image
Swiss broadcast service provider brutal güet has launched a state-of-the-art outside broadcast vehicle built entirely around IP-based workflows powered by Lawo's AoIP infrastructure.

The OB truck was designed, integrated, and project-managed by German system integrator Broadcast Solutions.

At the heart of the vehicle's audio production setup is a Lawo mc²56 MkIII production console with 48 faders, running on a redundant A__UHD Core licensed for 256 DSP channels. The core itself features a software-defined architecture providing up to 1,024 DSP channels within a compact 1RU housing. With native support for SMPTE ST2110, AES67, and RAVENNA, the system enables fully IP-based signal processing. For brutal güet, this translates to maximum operational reliability and scalability - essential for productions involving complex audio configurations and simultaneous multilingual broadcasts.

The mc²56 MkIII console provides a comprehensive feature set for demanding live productions, including immersive audio workflows, snapshot automation, loudness metering, and direct integration of Waves plug-ins. This functionality ensures efficient, high-quality production of challenging events such as multilingual sports broadcasts and classical concert mixes.
Signal distribution is handled by Lawo A__stage80 and A__stage48 I/O units. The A__stage80 offers 32 mic/line inputs, 32 line outputs, and 8 AES3 stereo I/Os, and supports ST2022-7 seamless protection switching for redundant networking. Both models are equipped with Class-A microphone preamps, MADI interfaces, and dual IP ports, providing maximum flexibility for connecting external sources regardless of the production environment.

The entire Audio-over-IP infrastructure is managed via Lawo HOME, the cloud-native control and management platform for IP-based media networks. HOME automatically detects compatible devices, integrates them securely into the network, and enables centralized configuration through an intuitive user interface. Supporting NMOS IS-04/05, IEEE 802.1x, and RADIUS, the platform combines flexibility with strong security. With the new HOME 4.0 release and its HOME Pass licensing model, infrastructures can be scaled precisely—only active devices and apps require a license—making it ideal for dynamic productions with changing requirements.

The OB van itself was designed by Broadcast Solutions based on its Streamline concept and tailored to brutal güet’s specific operational needs. The interior layout follows a clear workflow structure: the front section houses the video control area featuring a Sony MLS-1 vision mixer for UHD/HDR productions, along with Slomo and multifunction workstations in an expandable bay. The centre section accommodates the Lawo mc²56 MkIII console, installed perpendicular to the driving direction to maintain direct line-of-sight between the audio engineer and the director. A side window further enhances communication. The rear section includes camera shading and technical control workstations, along with server racks and the hi human interface system for centralised process automation.

The OB van's modular architecture, self-contained design, and integrated equipment storage allow for fully independent operation without external infrastructure. This saves time, reduces potential sources of error, and enhances operational reliability—a decisive advantage in a market where quality and efficiency are paramount.
