SKILLSET TO HOLD TRAINING SEMINARS AT EIFF

Skillset have announced that they are organising a series of training seminars at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.
A series of five, 90 minute panel sessions dealing with the filmmaking process from the first stages of development through to marketing and distribution. Sessions will be held in Scottish Screen Industry Room in the Point Hotel, Bread Street, Edinburgh, and will provide the opportunity for anyone working as an emergent filmmaker to listen, discuss and ask questions of panels of practitioners with a wide range of experience and industry insight.
There will also be one session held at the Filmhouse specifically offering careers advice and guidance for people at local schools and colleges.
Session One will outlining the normal process of development and the circumstances which can affect this path, practitioners with experience of development or of trying to get a script off the ground will give their insight into this process. Every aspect of what makes a project desirable or viable, the legalities of rights and options, sources of development funding and relationships with writers will be explored.
Session 2 called, From Dream to Reality, will provide information on the sometimes-complex issues of raising production finance and getting from script to screen. Sources of production and co-production finance will be explored along with the legal issues that go hand in hand with any production.
Session 3, Getting On, will drawing on the invaluable information available at the national careers portal Skillsformedia. This session will provide guidance for anyone looking to explore further training opportunities within the industry - whether you’re wanting to simply keep your skills up to date or move up the ladder.
The fourth session will explore all elements of getting a finished film in to the marketplace. From the value of good stills to screenings at festivals, the panellists will discuss all aspects of gaining maximum exposure for a film, and ultimately an audience.
Session 5, The Producers Game, will focus on the under-recognised role of the line producer explaining the many different elements and personnel needed to bring a production in on time and on budget, from crewing up to cost reports.
Single Sessions are priced at £15 and to sign up for five Sessions the cost is £60. Places are limited so register early to avoid disappointment.
