MILL FILM INSTALL 5D CYBORG [COMMANDER]

PIONEERING EFFECTS developers 5D have announced that Academy Award-winning, digital visual effects facility, Mill Film have installed 5D Cyborg [Commander], 5D’s new real-time, 2K film and video playback/output solution.
Mill Film are one London’s busiest feature film, visual effects companies, and are integrating 5D Cyborg [Commander] into their workflow pipeline to improve daily throughput and overall productivity.
Mill Film are also currently evaluating the installation of a second system at their Shepperton Studio base.
Mill Film was launched in 1997 as the feature-film division of highly-respected, commercials visual effects facility The Mill. Earlier this year Mill Film won an Oscar for their visual effects work on Ridley Scott's Roman epic ‘Gladiator’. Other high-profile projects completed by the company include ‘Hannibal’, ‘Chocolat’, ‘Proof of Life’, ‘Tomb Raider’, ‘Harry Potter and the ‘Philosopher’s Stone’, ‘Like Cats And Dogs’, ‘A Knight's Tale’ and ‘Pluto Nash’.
5D Cyborg [Commander] is currently being employed in the post-production of a raft of projects due for release later this year. The system has been delivered to Mill Film with 50 minutes of 2K storage and is being used initially for the review and quality control of rendered CG sequences. The system will also soon support Mill Film’s 2K compositing systems from Discreet and Nothing Real to enable the real-time viewing of final composites.
5D Cyborg [Commander] provides a convenient and flexible way to view full-frame SD, HD, CG and film-resolution data, such as daily test composites for movie special effects and 3D content. As soon as the material is output from the originating workstation it can be viewed on Commander. By enabling the viewing of full-frame material on a CRT, or via a digital projector, Commander offers a revolutionary and cost-effective alternative to the traditional process of checking digital dailies by outputting to film.
As with the complete range of 5D Cyborg products, 5D Cyborg [Commander] is delivered as a turnkey solution, that includes certified hardware, monitor, pen and tablet, plus scalable storage configurations initially available with 45 or 90 minutes of 2048 x 1556 (8-bit) storage. (CD)
