Pinnacle Systems announces sale of Liquid Edition 5.5 to BBC

Pinnacle Systems have announced that the BBC Personal Digital Production Development centre in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne has purchased nine copies of Pinnacle Liquid Edition 5.5 video editing systems.
The new software will be used to teach staff from Nations and Regions how to edit material they have shot for broadcast. Liquid Edition is used in the newsrooms at Bristol, Leeds and Hull and about 30 people from these stations will attend these training courses during the year.
The Bristol studio has ten copies of Liquid Edition, upgrades to the existing Edition 5.1. They were also previously users of Pinnacle Liquid Purple, so they experienced no problems moving to Liquid Edition.
There are around six copies of Liquid Edition at the Leeds and Hull studios and they expect to replace a further six Liquid Purples with Liquid Editions in the near future. Chris Jarmuz, Technology Organiser at Leeds, commented: “Originally, we were disappointed with the Edition version 4.5, but now with the upgrade to Liquid Edition 5.5 and improvements in our PC Hardware, the software is stable and reliable, even at this early stage.”
Liquid Edition is the first professional non-linear video editing application to utilise both the CPU and GPU to provide more than 1000 real-time 2D and true 3D effects, chroma and luma keys and more with up to 10 real-time streams. Other professional features include Pinnacle’s advanced CX primary and secondary colour corrector and dynamic slow-motion controls. Liquid Edition offers background rendering so that editor does not have to interrupt the creative workflow. With Liquid Edition Pro, there is both analogue out to a NTSC/PAL video monitor and/or tape from the timeline with real-time effects.
Only Liquid Edition provides direct-from-the-timeline DVD authoring. With Liquid Edition, the DVD track appears alongside the standard audio and video tracks and enables the user to easily create and edit graphic menus directly within the Pinnacle Liquid environment. Sophisticated wizards and templates expedite the DVD creation process.
Pinnacle Systems, which was founded in 1986 and is based in Mountain View, California, supplies a comprehensive choice of digital video tools for broadcasters, video professionals and home-users.
