AVT Masterclass To Launch With OOONA As The Cloud Tool Of Choice

AVT Masterclass, a platform providing flexible training options in media localization, launches tomorrow, 15 October, with OOONA as the cloud tool of choice for the online subtitling and captioning courses it offers.

OOONA is a leading provider of management and production tools for the media localization industry and the only company to date that has developed a bespoke platform tailored to the needs of training providers.

As streaming platforms keep churning out large volumes of audiovisual content, media localizers struggle to attract professionals with the right skillset. Dubbing resources are already strained and many industry stakeholders are now voicing concerns about a looming talent crunch in the subtitling field. AVT Masterclass responds to this need in the market by allowing linguists to get training through blended online learning which combines self-paced content with group work and individual coaching.

"This new initiative will help tackle the resource issue the industry is experiencing," commented Prof. Agnieszka Szarkowska, co-founder of AVT Masterclass and head of the AVT Lab at the University of Warsaw. "Over the past decade, I have seen hundreds of university graduates, passionate about translating film and eager to enter the labor market, looking for further training and professional opportunities in the field. At AVT Masterclass we harness the power of modern online educational tools to make engaging educational content available 24/7 across the globe."

"OOONA is the best publicly available cloud subtitling platform," said Łukasz Dutka, AVT Masterclass co-founder and director of Global Alliance of Speech-to-Text Captioning. "It is developing at a rollercoaster pace. This cooperation will allow us to train localization specialists using the best cloud tools in the market."

"We are very pleased to be partnering with AVT Masterclass," added OOONA's global product manager, Alex Yoffe. "We have been working closely with academic institutions for a while now and share the same values with the team at AVT Masterclass: focusing on people, delivering top-of-the market quality and thinking outside the box."

AVT Masterclass also offers training opportunities for localization companies that are scaling their workflows and want to adopt OOONA but need help with training their translators and getting them up and running in a new tooling ecosystem. Aside from publicly available courses for individuals and companies, there are plans to also expand into tailor-made company-specific courses and training packages which serve the internal needs of language service providers.

AVT Masterclass goes live on 15 October with a selection of subtitling courses, including a course on subtitle template creation. More courses on media localization will become available in Q1 2022.
