skillsformedia Scotland relaunched

skillsformedia Scotland is being re-launched and expanded thanks to funding from Scottish Enterprise and Scottish Screen.
After a six month absence, skillsformedia is back with a limited number of free one to one advice sessions offered to anyone working or wanting to work in film, TV, video, interactive media or radio and looking to kick-start their career, boost their prospects or change direction.
skillsformedia is managed and run by Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for the Audio Visual Industries, and BECTU, the specialist industry trades union. Sessions are with working media professionals, experienced in the ups and downs of a freelancer’s life, who have been trained as careers advisors and provide honest, confidential advice tailored to the individuals needs.
Controller of BBC Scotland and Skillset Board member John McCormick expressed his support for the service, saying: “skillsformedia is a crucial support mechanism for freelancers, who are the lifeblood of our industry. We depend on freelancers but as they are self employed there’s usually no one for them to turn to for advice or just general information. This service provides practical, informed and above all realistic guidance about how best to develop their skills, progress their careers and achieve their goals. That’s great news for freelancers and therefore great news for the industry in Scotland.”
