Hampshire college Channel adopts Windows XP Media Center

South Downs College, the largest College of Further Education in Hampshire, has developed its own media channel for on site broadcasts using Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition.
Students, staff and visitors to the college Courtyard Café, the social hub of the college, will now be able to enjoy a mixture of student-created videos, local off-air news and sporting events, pictures, and even ‘time-shifted’ material for broadcast during college open hours.
Chris Harris, Web Manager at the college commented: “By placing a large screen and a Media Center into our social areas, we can showcase the digital media produced by our students. The mixture of digital radio, television and college media will inspire students from all courses to not only watch and discuss what they see, but also to film, photograph and document events and ideas.”
Students’ work, mixed with its own pre-recorded continuity announcements, is presented as a TV channel and viewed on a superb 50” plasma display, complete with 5.1 surround audio, powered by the Media Center.
