SCHOOLS ADVISORY COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN APPOINTED

MR Ian Barr has been appointed Chairman of the Schools Advisory Committee (SAC), the body that advises the ITC on the service for schools provided by Channel 4 and the way in which television is used in the classroom.
His appointment will take immediate effect and run until the ITC moves into OFCOM, the new regulatory communications body due to be set up in 2004.
Mr Barr has extensive professional experience in education. He currently works at a national and international level as a consultant on education, arts and culture and has held a number of senior academic posts. He is an author of several papers on education issues and has managed a number of national projects on the curriculum. He is a member of a number of advisory boards including the Board of the Scottish Council for Educational Research, the Development Education Commission and the Board of the Centre for Creative Communities.
Ian Barr said, “I am honoured to be appointed to this role. Within the membership of the SAC resides a vast reservoir of experience and insight. Chairing such a group carries with it a significant responsibility and I look forward to the challenge.”
