Timeline Secures Broadcasting Contract For RHS Chelsea Flower Show

Timeline has secured a four-year contract to deliver the outside broadcast, RF and post-production facilities for BBC's coverage of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Last week the company successfully delivered its first year of the prestigious flower show. Timeline's spacious outside broadcast truck UHD2 acted as the main production vehicle containing two edits and an EVS operation as well as the sound and vision operation.

Its brand-new uplink truck also formed the engineering hub for both on site and outgoing RF circuits.

Seven radio cameras worked across the entire site to facilitate live and "as live" presentation pieces showcasing the many varied features of the event. Three cabled studio cameras were also provided for the live show each evening on BBC One. Though operating in HD, Timeline deployed its 4K cameras and the highest quality RF links throughout its operation in order to deliver superior vision quality.

There was also a large outside broadcast requirement for radio mics (40), TV and Radio IEMs channels (8) and Talkback channels (10). They all needed to work over the whole site and were planned and managed by the combined efforts of Timeline's specialist RF and audio departments.

Sound Supervisor Phil Leech stated: "It's been the best IEM coverage in the 10 years I've been supervising the event."

Timeline set up nine edit areas onsite as well as three ingest stations and three EVS machines, all networked with shared storage and access to graphics. Finally, post-production facilities were sent to BBC Bristol to prepare VT packages in advance of the show.
