Channel 4 Commissions 'Inside The EU'

Channel 4 has released details of a new series which will follow a group of British MEPs as they prepare for the ride that is the Brexit roller coaster.

'Inside The EU' (w/t) will show the inner workings of the European Parliament as seen through the yes of the UK's MEPs and their assistants, documenting the highs and lows as they are caught between the fast-moving politics at home and in Brussels.

Among those to feature in the series is one of the UK's youngest MEPs – the Labour Party's Seb Dance – who is trying to stop, what he sees, as "the catastrophe of Brexit" while battling to earn his political stripes. A few corridors away, UKIP's Brexit Spokesman, Gerard Batten, is infuriated by the "quisling remoaners denying Great Britain a glorious and prosperous future" and is pushing for a harder, faster exit.

Jane Merkin, Executive Producer, said: "Inside the EU reveals a group of 'Eurocrats' far from the grey, faceless automatons painted in the tabloid press. Instead, as seen in the series, they are a colourful, passionate bunch of characters who wear their hearts on their sleeve, fighting tirelessly for what they believe in, despite the fact that in 18 months, the UK will stop being part of the EU."

Nick Mirsky, Channel 4 Head of Documentaries, added: "Covering the first nine months of tantrums and turmoil in the Brexit negotiations and with every major political party filmed, Inside the EU provides a unique and colourful insight into these historic times."

The 3x60' series is series produced and directed by Christian Trumble, executive produced by Jane Merkin and Denman Rooke for October Films. The series is a co-production between October Films and Director Christian Trumble and was commissioned by Channel 4 Head of Documentaries Nick Mirsky.
