Lead Cast Announced For Hard Sun Drama

News Image
It has been revealed that Jim Sturgess and Agyness Deyn are to play the lead roles in a new pre-apocalyptic crime drama for BBC One, Hard Sun.

Sturgess and Deyn play detectives Robert Hicks and Elaine Renko, respectively. They are partners – and enemies – in contemporary London who seek to maintain the law and protect their loved in a world that comes closer to certain destruction every day.

Hicks is a family man and a committed copper, but he is also corrupt. Renko, meanwhile, is difficult and damaged – and utterly incorruptible. With the two detectives on either side of the social and moral spectrum, they do not trust each other but need to learn to work together if they are going to survive until the end of the world.

Hard Sun is a new 6x60' drama written by Neil Cross. The series is produced by Euston Films. Brian Kirk is the lead director with Hugh Warren producing the series. The executive producers are Kate Harwood for Euston Films and Elizabeth Kilgarriff for BBC One.

Filming is due to commence in London later this month, to transmit later in 2017.

Commenting on the project, Jim Sturgess said: "I am very excited to be playing Hicks in this wonderful project. To work with Neil's fantastic writing is a great opportunity and I hope we are going to create an amazing experience for our audience. I can't wait to get started."

Agyness Dean added: "As soon as I read the first episode I was hooked. I'm such a fan of both Neil and Brian's work, it's an honour to join the Hard Sun team."
