Successful 2016 For Custom Consoles

News Image
Custom Consoles has reported a successful 2016, with high demand for its product range.

"Demand is proving strong across both for our broadcast products and for our SteelBase series which we designed for heavy-duty industrial applications," said Gary Fuller, Sales Manager. "Major overseas projects included two control suites for the CERN Large Hadron Collider beauty (LHCb) experiment at the experimental site on the Franco-Swiss border. This embraced the design and installation of desks for the LHCb main control room and the LHC cryogenics control room.

"In the broadcast sector, we provided a seven-desk facility to a major Asian network operator. The desks were created from our Module-R product series. Largest of these are two curved units for a 320 square metre master control room. The 14.8 metre wide forward desk is designed for use by up to nine operators. Behind this is a 17.4 metre wide desk for up to 13 operators."

Custom Consoles Module-R, MDesks and MediaPosts were selected by Altered Images as the core technical furniture for a new television studio gallery at Coventry University in the UK Midlands. The facility is being used as a training resource for students of broadcasting, journalism and drama. It also allows the production of high quality programmes supporting a range of undergraduate courses.

"An important aspect of this contract was to ensure it reflected current best practice in the broadcast industry to which many students will migrate after graduation," explained Tim Cunningham, Regional Development Manager, Altered Images. "Our Projects Design team like Custom Consoles desks and recommend them for many of our system proposals. They were the logical source both for the main control desk, rear operational support desks and video display screen mounts."

In addition, three Custom Consoles Module-R control desks plus a Media Wall monitor support were chosen for an expanded studio control room at a large financial trading houses in the City of London. The studio and its supporting technical facilities are used to create news and comment for broadcasters around the globe. The largest desk is a 4 metre wide three-operator in-line main production with an inset Ross vision switcher panel at mid-left, a centrally positioned Soundcraft audio mixer and a Strand lighting control console on the right. Immediately in front of this desk is a 5 metre wide twin-frame Media Wall supporting a horizontal row of four 50 inch flat-panel monitors.

Meanwhile, Multilink Broadcast chose a Custom Consoles Module-R desk and Media Wall monitor support frame to accommodate core control and monitoring equipment for the video and audio studio at the Telegraph Media Group's London headquarters. The control room and studio are used as a hub for realtime content gathering and distribution for various divisions within the group and are also available for use by to third-party clients.

"Module-R provided the basis from which we were able to specify exactly the combination of features required for the control desk," said Dean McNally, Managing Director, Multilink Broadcast. "This is a 3.2 metre wide in-line design supported by a 14U high pod on the left and right sides. Module-R is very popular with our customers, for its stability and styling as well as its excellent ergonomics. It also provides easy front and rear access to equipment and wiring during initial installation and routine maintenance. Media Wall gave us a similar degree of freedom to configure a support structure for the control room's picture and sound monitors."
