DGP deliver Olympics promos to BBC

DGP have completed on a post-production commission on 11 short films promoting BBC Sport's coverage of the 2002 Winter Olympics.
The games will take place in Salt Lake City from February 8-24. The promos, ranging in duration from 10 seconds to one minute, were offlined in Avid by Steve Ackroyd, then conformed and finished in Smoke by Robbie Hartwell. They were produced by Richard Gort, and written and directed by Mark Chaudoir and Paul Cushion of BBC Creative Services.
Themed 'Experience It', it was hoped that the audience would get a feel for the sports involved in the various sports involved through a mixture of 16mm and Bolex footage.
For close-up shots, a DV was shot using extra small DV cameras on rigging attached to each competitor. The DVC camera rigging, supplied by Skarada, was lightweight enough to move with the competitors, producing some dramatic images.
Each promo was cut to a fast music track to give the piece rhythm and pace; the music was later removed and replaced with audio effects to match each sport. In all eight sports were covered in the promos: ice skating, ice hockey, bobsleigh, downhill skiing, ski jump, aerials, skeleton and snowboarding.
The promos will be shown on BBC ONE and BBC TWO leading up to the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. (GMcG)
