Calibre's PremierViewPro fits the bill for Visimax

VisComm Solutions Limited, the large screen display company part of the MacDonald Humfrey (Automation) Group, has selected PremierViewPro, a new image scaler from Calibre UK, as the scaling device for Visimax, the company’s new full colour, large scale LED video wall.
VisComm, known as a manufacturer of Tricolour LED Displays for the process manufacturing industry, has now developed the Visimax Full Colour LED display range that is aimed at outdoor advertising and information displays in airports, shopping centres and other public places and large screen broadcasting in sports arenas.
Engineers at VisComm developed a video controller for Visimax with fibre optic links to the screen display and were using this in conjunction with an interface board from Calibre. At the same time, in-house development had started on a purpose built image scaler.
During routine technical support calls between the two companies it was revealed that Calibre had commenced development on a new scaler, the PremierViewPro. This was designed specifically for driving high-end LCD and DLP projectors and very large, full-colour LED displays. It has a high performance video input front-end that includes true component video support in both analogue and digital formats and features outstanding motion-adaptive directionally-correlated video de-interlacing and a best-in-class image scaling engine. This provides the system flexibility and a truly outstanding image quality that was ideal for Visimax.
A prototype was loaned, tests carried out and Visimax director, Keith Mills, described the results. "The Calibre scaler was very easily assimilated and interfaced with the existing electronics and the enhanced quality of display was immediately apparent," he said.
"Our decision to use PremierViewPro rather than proceed with our own development plan was based partly on an economic standpoint but the performance level of the Calibre scaler was the deciding issue. Because the PremierViewPro provides everything we needed for Visimax, if we set the development costs against the purchase price it was by far the most economical path to take. More importantly, we were highly impressed with the image produced by PremierViewPro especially in terms of the ‘motion’ reproduction. It was also a bonus that we were able to work as a team with Calibre engineers who bought a high level of expertise and experience to the project," he added.
