New Cinema Fund forges international links

'In My Father’s Den' starring 'Spooks' lead actor Matthew Macfadyen, currently shooting in New Zealand, and French language films 'L’Ecole' and 'Lila Dit Ça' (Lila Says) are just three of a selection of new international co-productions being financed by the Film Council’s New Cinema Fund.
New Zealand director Brad McGann has written and directs In My Father’s Den based on the novel by Maurice Gee, one of New Zealand's foremost writers. The film is a co-production partnership with the New Zealand Film Commission, UK’s Visionview and NZ On Air. The film is produced by New Zealander Trevor Haysom of THE film Ltd and UK producer Dixie Linder of Little Bird.
Already attracting strong international interest, In My Father's Den has secured UK theatrical distribution with Optimum Releasing and Sydney based Icon Film Distribution will release the film in Australia and New Zealand. UK sales company Element X is handling worldwide sales excluding Japan, Australasia, and the South East Asian territories, which are being sold by the New Zealand Film Commission.
Paul Trijbits, head of the New Cinema Fund believes there is a growing audience for specialised films in the UK that involve foreign co-production elements. He said: “We are delighted to be able to broaden the range of films available to UK audiences by supporting these international co-productions. In addition these films strengthen collaboration and co-production between UK producers and their European counterparts.”
