PMC develop LB1 upgrade

PMC has launched a new Signature version of its LB1 industry standard professional monitor.
The new LB1 Signature was developed by Managing Director and co-founder Pete Thomas, who designed the original LB1 some 12 years ago and incorporates significant improvements in terms of construction and components. The result is a clearly audible improvement in performance that will ensure the LB1 maintains its position as a benchmark monitor for use with the very latest developments in high resolution, wide bandwidth recording technologies.
The improvements in the new design have been effected through a process of hand selection and matching of components (and recording of their values) before assessing them in exhaustive listening tests. Modifications to the original design employed innovative engineering gleaned in the subsequent development of groundbreaking models like the highly acclaimed AML1 Active design.
Design enhancements incorporated in the Signature model include the replacement of all high grade polyester capacitors with poly-carbonate SOLEN devices from France, resulting in audible improvements to the imaging and clarity in the upper frequency range. New transmission line damping material and positioning has produced superior mid-range definition and greatly reduced unwanted cone excursion and harmonic distortion; the resultant lack of signal colouration is especially beneficial in improving mid-range resolution.
The revised component layout provides for lower electro-magnetic interaction and the inclusion of a non-magnetic stainless steel backplate reduces to an absolute minimum its effect on the inductive components on the board.
The Signature model is finished with a distinctive stainless steel front badge featuring Pete Thomas’s signature, on both the front grille and cabinet as well as a hand stamped the serial number plate.
Each pair of monitors is accompanied with a certificate of authenticity signed by Pete personally. The LB1 Signature also comes in a centre channel variant for surround sound systems, including the matched active TLE1 sub. A range of standard booked matched, hand selected veneers includes Black Ash, Cherry and Oak, with Premium veneers available on request.
The original LB1 design is to continue in production meantime, designated the LB1 Classic, to satisfy demand from the extensive range of existing users, including the many multi-room facilities and broadcast companies who operate the LB1 as a standard.
