Tricks Of The Restaurant Trade (w/t) For Ch4

News Image
A new four-part series looking at the restaurant trade has been commissioned for Channel 4.

The series, Tricks of the Restaurant Trade (w/t), will be presented by Simon Rimmer, Kate Quilton and Adam Pearson, and will look at how customers can receive the best quality food at the best price. It will also reveal some of the techniques used by restaurants to make customers spend more.

Food issues will also be addressed, such as comparing the cuts of meat used in gourmet burger chains with those used in McDonalds; how restaurants are serving food which has been prepared off-site miles away; and asking if Britain has ruined the pizza.

Dorothy Byrne, head of news and current affairs at Channel 4 said: "At Channel Four we have previously revealed a lot about the secrets of supermarket food and how food is made in the UK. Now we're doing the same for restaurant and takeaway food because most families eat out a couple of times a week so it's vital that they know what's in the food they're eating and whether they're getting value for money."

Neil Smith, joint managing director, betty, said: "This series lifts the lid on the things consumers should be aware of when they eat out. There are over a quarter of a million places to eat out in the UK and we've become a nation of foodies. This consumer show taps into the rising trend for dining out and buying takeaways rather than cooking at home."

The 4x30' series, which has secured access to a range of chains including Gourmet Burger Kitchen and KFC, was commissioned by Channel 4's head of news and current affairs Dorothy Byrne. The executive producer for betty is Victoria Hamburger and the series producer is Adam Vandermark.
