Aspera And Akamai Technologies Win Accolade At TVBAwards

News Image
Aspera, an IBM company, and Akamai Technologies, Inc. have been presented with the TV Anywhere Solutions accolade at the TVBAwards ceremony in London.

The TVBAwards, organized by industry publication TVB Europe, celebrates the success stories in the production, management and delivery of media content.

Both Aspera and Akamai Technologies received the accolade due to improving and simplifying Sky Italia's workflow with Akamai's Media Delivery solutions.

Since their launch in 2012, Sky Go and Sky on Demand have quickly become some of the most popular video content services in Italy with more than three million combined active users. Faced with this demand, and an increasing amount of content offered via mobile devices, Sky needed to accelerate content upload into its storage systems to grow the breadth and quality of its offerings. This required the right partner to help Sky improve their offerings without additional infrastructure investments.

With a 2500-movie library, almost five million subscribers to the broadcaster's satellite channels, and more than two million weekly downloads, it was important that Sky Italia is able to offer new content in the fastest and most effective way without affecting quality. Combining the leading high-speed file transfer solutions from Aspera, and Akamai's NetStorage cloud-based storage platform, Sky realized an increase in file upload speed by up to 650 percent.

"It's an honour to be recognised for our collaboration with Akamai Technologies on an installation that has enabled Sky Italia to speed up the delivery of content to consumers by such an astounding rate," said Michelle Munson, CEO and co-founder of Aspera.
