RED Launch Filmmaking Competition

RED Digital Cinema and Surfer Magazine have announced the launch of REDirect Surf 2015.

This is the second installment of the REDirect series which is a competition for filmmaking visionaries across the globe, highlighting varying genres. RED and the Berrics joined forces in 2014 to launch the first REDirect. Following a successful collaboration and film festival showcasing the most renowned skateboarding filmmakers in the world, the focus now turns to the art of capturing surfing.

A total of 11 contestants, selected by Surfer and RED, have created films for the competition.

They will be judged on both their 'Best Moment in Time' – a still pulled from their motion footage – and their 'Best Highlight Reel' which is their finished short film project.

Each contestant received a full EPIC RED DRAGON camera package, boasting 6K over 19 megapixels and strong dynamic range, a DryZone 200, a waterproof soft-sided camera backpack from Lowepro, G-Technology's G-RAID and the newly-released G-DOCK ev™ with Thunderbolt storage solution.

REDirect Surf starts with Erik Knutson's film featuring John John Florence and will feature two releases per week at Surfermag.com (in 1080) and RED.com (in 4K). Viewers will have a chance to vote for the Fan Favourite at Surfermag.com the week of July 27 with the overall winner and Fan Favourite announced the week of August 3.

The Grand Prize winner will take home the EPIC DRAGON package they were shooting on during the competition (valued at over $50,000), with additional prizes for second and third place winners, and the Fan Favourite.
