Soho facility restore Churchill footage for new ITV documentary

Full-service London facility The Machine Room is restoring, treating and editing old and new footage for three one-hour programmes that chart the long and illustrious life of Britain’s greatest leader, Sir Winston Churchill.
Using archive film, photographs and personal anecdotes combined with specially shot dramatic reconstructions, the series aims to reveal the real man behind the legend - the soldier, adventurer, politician, painter, author and statesman.
Produced and off-lined by TWI, and narrated by Sir Ian McKellen, the programmes air later this year on ITV1 and on USA public service channel, PBS. The documentary has been over 15 months in the making, and follows on from the highly successful ‘The British Empire in Colour’ (TWI/The Machine Room) documentary. A video and DVD also accompany the series.
‘Churchill’ Series Producer and Director, Lucy Carter, says: “This is a challenging project about an epic life, so it was extremely important for the look and the feel of the documentary to reflect that. And as much as we’d have liked to have shot on film to get that dramatic filmic look, a documentary budget meant that digi was the only option.”
