BFI & Film Four Conjure The 'Dark Arts'

News Image
The British Film Institute and Film4 have joined forces to beam stories of witches, demons and ghosts into British living rooms this Halloween, with the launch of the Dark Arts season of films.
The move is part of the BFI's 'Gothic: The Dark Art Of Film', which has been bringing tales of horror and macabre to cinemas across the UK.
The Dark Arts season launched this week and will run through to Sunday 3 November.
This is the first time the BFI and Film4 have collaborated together to create complementary programming.
The channel will share in the BFI's celebration of the dark heart of film, represented in the BFI Southbank season by four themes: Monstrous, The Dark Arts, Haunted and Love is a Devil.
Film4 is running a six-night feature of demonic, diabolical and Satanic cinema that includes silent classic Haxan (Witchcraft Through the Ages, 1922), cult favourites Race With the Devil (1975) and The Blood on Satan's Claw (1971), to more recent offerings such as Antichrist (2009) and A Field in England (2013).
Other offerings are brought to audiences nationwide with Halloween revivals of The Exorcist (1973) at Vue Cinemas and Wes Craven's slasher classic A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) at Cineworld Cinemas, courtesy of long-time collaborators Park Circus.
Haunting programmes will also appear in Picturehouse and Odeon cinemas.
Further details are available on the Film4 blog.
