Soundfirm Makes Breakthrough Into DI With SGO Mistika

Renowned Australian feature sound mixing and editing facility, Soundfirm has invested in a Mistika 2K finishing system with advanced DI colour grading and stereo 3D options from SGO's Australasian Reseller Partner, Mojo Media Solutions. Located at Fox Studios in Sydney, with premises in Melbourne and Beijing, Soundfirm has entered the exciting world of DI and stereo 3D with Mistika, after a successful record of providing first-rate audio post production and mixing for features and television.
The acquisition is part of a larger expansion effort, initiated by Soundfirm, to position themselves at the forefront of the post production digital intermediate and picture services market. Commencing with an extensive refurbishment to their Mix-2 suite, Soundfirm has been transformed into one of the most technically advanced multi-purpose DI Grading, Sound Mixing and Screening facilities in Australia. The company also boasts a new Christie 4K projector with Dolby 3D capability, as well as a Dolby PRM4200 reference monitor, and other high-end technologies.
Soundfirm will benefit from Mistika's powerful capabilities and will be used extensively for the creation of stereo 3D rushes for AVID; exporting high resolution VFX plate shots for VFX vendors; conforming new versions; aligning footage in stereo 3D; completing DI grades in their new DI theatre; producing deliverables for television and cinema releases, and a great deal more.
Roger Savage, CEO and Founder of Soundfirm said: "As a predominantly audio services provider looking to expand into the picture side of business, we were looking for a single system that could fulfill multiple requirements. We wanted a world class finishing system that could take on any project, regardless of camera file format or image resolution and be able to create rushes and editorial media, conform, finish, create effects, DI grading and delivery mastering. We certainly found what we were looking for in Mistika. It has already secured work for us that we would otherwise not have been able to take on, and there is even more in the pipeline."
Mistika was put to work immediately on the re-versioning of a natively shot 3D feature film, with 20-minutes of additional footage shot on ARRI ALEXA. Filmed using RED ONE, the original version of the film was completed overseas, with the new version due for international release.
