Royal Wedding Most Viewed In 2011
According to recent figures the Royal Wedding was the most watched event on TV in 2011.
The Broadcasters’ Audience Research Board has revealed that 13.59m people tuned into watch the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge tie the knot.
According to the BBC their total average audience (across numerous broadcasters) for the ceremony was 26m - more than the 21.7m who watched Prince Charles marry Lady Diana Spencer 30 years ago.
The X-factor has retained audience interest appearing twice in the top ten lists with £13.46m people watching the results show and 12.92m people viewing the first episode of the latest season. The talent show nabbed spots number two and four on the list.
Reality shows Strictly Come Dancing, Britain’s Got Talent and I’m a Celebrity also featured in the top ten list.
ITV1’s drama Downton Abbey, after its Emmy success and Golden Globes, also made the top ten programmes of 2011- it pulled in 12.15m viewers.
Meanwhile BBC soap EastEnders also pulled in 11.42m viewers for a festive episode last year.
