Independent's Glue Society Creates New Spot For Doritos

Inspired by Mexican cinema of the late 1960s and faintly reminiscent of the iconic duelling scenes featured in Spaghetti Westerns such as The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, Independent's award-winning director The Glue Society has taken an hilarious script AMV BBDO to create an off-beat epic entitled The Dip Desperado for Doritos.
Shot on 16mm on location in Mexico, a 30-second version of the spot will be airing on television while a two-minute cut will be available to audiences online. The opening of the extended cut sets the scene that a tense battle with a difference is about to be played out by our unlikely hero Esteban. A quick on his draw chip slinging legend, the narrative builds in a traditional melodramatic style around Esteban's escalating and uncontested success. Cutting between footage of Esteban at various high points in his life and career, such as his marriage to a stunning raven-haired bridge, we then witness his rapid fall from grace, which sees his career and personal life in tatters.
However, all is not lost and the spot ends with Esteban returning to his former glory in a classic gun-fight style finale sequence that sees our hero win back the adoration of his fans and the coveted chip flicking trophy.
Glue Society Director Gary Freedman said: "This was probably one of the most fun jobs I've ever done. The idea of flicking chips being this noble sport of kings never grows old. We just wanted to make the film seem big and important as if throwing chips matters!"
