ITV Studios Global Entertainment will launch a host of contemporary new primetime dramas at MIP-TV 2011, showcasing a portfolio of original content from ITV Studios and leading third-party producers which features some of the industry's most renowned creative and acting talent.
James Nesbitt (Cold Feet) leads an impressive ensemble cast including Sarah Parish (Cutting It, Mistresses) and Tom Riley (Bouquet of Barbed Wire) in the stylish new six-part medical drama series Monroe, created by acclaimed writer Peter Bowker (Eric and Ernie, Occupation) and produced by Mammoth Screen for ITV1.
Nesbitt plays brilliant neurosurgeon Gabriel Monroe, who never lets anyone forget his flaws or genius, least of all his colleague and rival, heart surgeon Jenny Bremner (Parish). Working in a contemporary, urban hospital, every day he makes life or death decisions, for the stakes are always high in brain surgery and Monroe has no choice but to play the odds.
The highly anticipated adaptation of Kate Atkinson's best-selling novels Case Histories will make its international debut at MIP-TV. The character-driven detective drama stars Jason Issacs (The State Within, Harry Potter) as former solider and policeman Jackson Brodie. With a tough exterior that belies his compassionate and empathetic nature, Jackson is compelled to help the bereaved and gather in the lost, hoping that he can bring a resolution to their grief that he can never find for himself.
Produced by Ruby Film and Television in association with Monastic Productions and created for television by Ashley Pharoah (Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes), these two-part stories are warm, funny and moving, offering an uplifting and entertaining remaining of the detective genre.
Award-winning writer Lynda La Plante returns with a new instalment of her ratings winning series Above Suspicion, the most successful consolidated drama on ITV1 in the UK.
In Deadly Intent, DI Anna Travis (Kelly Reilly, Sherlock Holmes) and DCS James Langdon (Ciaran Hinds), Road to Perdition) are back to investigate the death of a former colleague and friend from the drug squad, found murdered in the home of a notorious drug dealer. As the team delve deeper into the case and suspicious ins with an infamous drug baron emerge, Langton and Travis must pull together to track down the elusive drug trafficker before he takes his next victim.
Following its highly successful ratings winning debut on the UK's ITV1 supernatural drama Marchlands, written for ITV Studios by Stephen Greenhorn (Glasgown Kiss, Doctor Who) and starring Alex Kingston (ER, Doctor Who) and Jodie Whittaker (Cranford, Wired) will be available at MIP-TV, blending compelling relationship drama with an atmospheric ghost story. The five-part series tells the gripping tale of three different families living in the same house in the 1960's, 1980's and present day. The families are linked by the spirit of a young girl - the 1960's family's daughter who died in mysterious circumstances.
Maria Kyriacou, Managing Director at ITV Studios Global Entertainment commented: "We are delighted to showcase this fantastic range of strong drama content at MIP-TV. By partnering with our colleagues at ITV Studios and continuing to build upon our relationships with leading third party producers, we are confident in our position as one of the go-to brands for high quality, globally appealing primetime drama programming. With a first class slate such as this, we expect MIP-TV to prove a very bust and successful market."
