Abit Helps CBC To Implement File-Based Workflow On SUPER RTL

Leading automation provider, Abit, has announced that it has installed its new Present It automation system at CBC (Cologne Broadcasting Centre) new premises in Köln-Deutz as part of CBC's relocation project resulting in a highly integrated workflow specifically designed around the latest Broadcast equipment and the corporate IT infrastructure.
Rob Leishman, Marketing Manager at Abit, explained: "The new system provides comprehensive file-based workflow integrating ingest, live feed recording, playout and archiving processes. Material asset management information, material storage platforms and transmission devices including the latest devices from Evertz, Miranda and Omneon are integrated utilising sophisticated control algorithms to allow the playout of shorter clips and the control of graphical insertion.
"The system has been designed to control the devices in the transmission path allowing last minute scheduling changes under the control of the automation system on the SUPER RTL channel to be carried out frame accurately."
Leishman continued: "By increasing the processing power utilising VME based Intel processor cards, running the application software on the Linux operating system, Abit's Present It system gives broadcasters such as CBC, the stability, flexibility and bandwidth needed to add new software and applications as necessary. In addition, closer integration with IT systems allows a superior level of workflow controlling the ever increasing number of program elements that combine to form the channel playout ensuring the SUPER RTL brand is shown at its best."
Abit itself is a privately owned, leading provider of tailor-made automation hardware and software solutions for broadcasters of all sizes. Clients include major broadcasters such as: CBC, MTV, NRK and RTL.
Designed to automate all essential broadcast processes to keep running costs low, Abit's suite of products are based on an industrial computer architecture. Accuracy, resilience and reliability are fundamental to the range, proven in eighteen years' of experience as a supplier to the broadcast industry.
Leishman explained: "We have worked with CBC for many years. Our focus is on understanding our customer's needs, and as a result, we have been able to develop our systems in-line with their detailed requirements. We have been delighted to provide an upgraded system to CBC on this occasion, which is reliable and flexible enough to accommodate the leading German broadcasters' requirements and their new infrastructure."
