Abit To Show New Linux Based Automation System At IBC

Playout automation specialist Abit Ltd have announced that they will show the new operating system for its automation system for the first time at IBC this year at Stand 8.B20c.
The updated central control computer now runs on a Linux operating system, offering broadcasters a future-proofed solution that has the capacity to adapt to changes in the broadcast environment.
Richard Thomas, Software Development Director at Abit, said: "By moving from OS9 to Linux we are now able to give broadcasters the flexibility and bandwidth needed to add new software and applications as necessary. In addition, a new Intel processing card which increases processing power further, remote web access for off-site staff and improvements to the back-up system means Abit will be showing some of the most advanced developments to its automation solution yet."
Thomas continued: "We will also be demonstrating a new software release which enables closer integration with other IT systems. The enhancement allows a superior level of granularity relating to programme material on the time line to be viewed, making it easier for broadcasters to control data and take full advantage of their digital file environments in relation to the use of Dolby, Parental control, aspect ratio and HD for example."
Abit itself is a privately owned, leading provider of tailor-made automation hardware and software solutions for broadcasters of all sizes. Clients include major broadcasters such as: MTV, NRK, WDR, RTL and CBC.
Thomas concluded: "Our investment in the new operating system underlines our ongoing commitment to create the most flexible automation solution possible for our customers. We anticipate the system's increased capability to match the future needs of broadcasters will prove a popular addition to our product offering at IBC."
