The Prisoner 'Breaks Out' To Europe

The worldwide entertainment producer, ITV Studios Global Entertainment has announced an agreement with public service broadcaster Arte for the original iconic series, The Prisoner (1967).
The cult sixties hit will be shown to French and German audiences from 24th July this year.
Four episodes of The Prisoner (1967) will be dubbed in German for the first time completing the series for local audiences.
Initially broadcast in 1969 four episodes were never dubbed in the local language despite building a strong following. In Germany Arte will work with local actors to complete dubbing of the series using specialist technology to create continuity with the voices of the original 1960's dubbing actors.
In France, audiences have seen the full season previously.
Tobi de Graaff, Director Global TV Distribution at ITV Studios Global Entertainment said: "Off the back of the international success of ITV Studios' and AMC's The Prisoner, interest in the original series has hit a new peak.
"It's testament to the breadth and quality of our portfolio of programmes that we are able to respond to this renewed enthusiasm and offer French and German audiences another chance to enjoy this groundbreaking classic."
The Prisoner remains unique in the world of television: a taut psycho-thriller about a secret agent who retires and finds himself thrown into a Kafka-esque world of mind play and enigma - a man known only as No. 6.
A major cult following has built up around this extraordinary series one of the most inventive and groundbreaking ever produced. Multi-talented and twice winner of an Emmy, Patrick McGoohan who stars, also created and produced the series and wrote and directed many of the episodes.
The ITV Studios and AMC critically celebrated 2010 primetime television series has now been licensed in over 100 territories including ZDF in Germany and Canal + in France.
