HaiVision Set To Make Splash At InfoComm 09 With BARRACUDA

A leading vendor of high-performance H.264 encoders, codecs and IP video systems, HaiVision Network Video, has announced that it will introduce the new BARRACUDA compact H.264 encoder at InfoComm 09.
Incorporating advanced features such as HaiVision's HiLo Streaming, which generates multiple stream resolutions from a single source, the BAARCUDA provides flexible low-latency SD encoding that addresses the widest array of IP video users while occupying an exceptionally small footprint. The BARRACUDA is compatible with industry-standard set-top boxes and integrates smoothly with HaiVision's Video Furnace System 5 for end-to-end H.264 IP video delivery.
Mirko Wicha, President and CEO of HaiVision Network Video, said: "The BARRACUDA is an exciting addition to the market in that it provides robust H.264 encoding capabilities unique in a product of this size and price point. Using the BARRACUDA to generate multiple stream resolutions simultaneously, users can easily and cost-effectively distribute H.264 IP-based media across a range of platforms and target devices."
The BARRACUDA supports SDI, S-video and composite video inputs and is available as a stand-alone appliance or in a high-density 4U rack-mount chassis holding as many as 21 BARRACUDA miniblade encoders. With less than 70 ms of encoding latency, as well as forward error correction (FEC) and encryption capabilities, this newest HaiVision encoder is ideal for real-time and mission-critical applications, and its low price point, solid performance and small size make the BARRACUDA an appealing alternative to larger, more expensive, power-hungry broadcast encoding systems for a wide array of video distribution applications. When used with HaiVision's Video Furnace System 5, the BARRACUDA enables affordable encoding and distribution of live video by computers and set-top boxes, creation of scheduled playback channels for enterprise TV and signage and recording of content and delivery of video on demand.
The Barracuda encoder inherits deep networking capabilities refined over the years for HaiVision's hai1000 encoder series and leverages the company's proven HiLo Streaming technology to generate - in a single encoding pass and in real time - the simultaneous high and low-resolution H.264 streams necessary to support efficient video distribution to any media consumer.
The BARRACUDA's encoding versatility and its adherence to the H.264 standard enables users to distribute end-to-end IP video to virtually any platform: for end-to-end IP video on the local area network (LAN) with HaiVision's Video Furnace; to industry stand players and set top boxes; and simultaneously to an H.264-compliant streaming server system (such as that offered by Wowza Media) for delivery to adobe Flash, QuickTime and Microsoft Silverlight.
The BARRACUDA will be on display at HaiVision's stand 2979 at InfoComm 09.
