Windfall Delivers Christmas Lectures For Five

Windfall Films is producing 'The Royal Institution Christmas Lectures' for Five for the third consecutive year.
The five-part series, presented by Professor Chris Bishop, Chief Research Scientist at Microsoft Research, will explore the science behind the microprocessor and the great challenges ahead for computer technology.
The five-part lecture series, called 'Hi-Tech Trek' will look at how microprocessors have got faster and faster; how computers have become ubiquitous and invisible, how software is able to perform thousands of tasks simultaneously; how software is able to perform thousands of tasks simultaneously; how the internet has transformed our lives and how computers can be trained to be intelligent.
During the lectures, Professor Bishop will demonstrate that a microchip can produce enough energy to fry an egg; how it's possible to squeeze 10,000 songs on to a MP3 player and why quantum physics can provide us with a totally secret way to transmit data over the internet.
David Dugan, Chairman of Windfall Films, said: "Staging the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures is always a delight. These lectures will inspire young people to take up the daunting challenges that currently excite computer scientists."
'The Royal Institution Christmas Lectures' is a Windfall Films production for Five. Commissioned by Sue Davidson at Five, the series was produced by Dan Kendall and executive produced by David Dugan for Windfall Films.
