Telecast's POV modules complete unique camera shuttle system for major Polish news studio

Telecast Fiber Systems has announced that Trust Automation, a motion control and systems engineering company based in San Luis Obispo, California, is integrating two Telecast POV (point of view) fibre optic video/data links in a state-of-the-art camera shuttle system for TVN24, a major TV newscast studio in Poland.
In addition to transporting video from the camera to the control room, the POVs facilitate robotic control of the camera shuttle, which is unique in its ability to move both laterally and vertically.
"Since there are shuttle control signals and almost a kilowatt of power driving the shuttle system, the video integrity had to be protected," said Dave Rennie, Director of Marketing and Sales for Trust Automation. "We chose Telecast's POV units because they transmit video from the camera to the control room via a long, single length of fibre without any loss of quality, while simultaneously providing the means to control the camera shuttle via the serial port.
"Trust Automation is nearing completion of manufacturing and integrating the custom-designed system at its California facilities. The system then will be shipped to the broadcast studio, a brand-new facility that was constructed in late 2004.
The POV system supports a Sony DXC-990P camera with a Canon lens and image stabilisation, built onto a robotic shuttle that transverses a horseshoe-shaped track 40 meters in length. Operators have pan and tilt control of the camera platform and the ability to move it not only laterally along the track, but vertically by two meters as well, a unique characteristic that makes the system one of a kind. Despite the large range of movement, camera stability and near-silent operation were also essential. The POV module resides on the camera shuttle itself to transmit the SDI video over fibre from the camera to the control room for use in live or mixed video news productions.
