Irish feature film selected for prestigious Toronto International Film Festival

Perry Ogden's debut feature 'Pavee Lackeen' has been selected for the Toronto International Film Festival which takes place in September.
In an announcement from the festival organisers, Pavee Lackeen has been selected as one of six films to screen in the prestigious Discovery section of the festival. Launched in 1996, Discovery points both public audiences and industry professionals toward hot new directors. Pavee Lackeen, charting the story of a Traveller girl, is acclaimed photographer Perry Ogden's first feature film.
Financed by Perry Ogden with co-finance from the Irish Film Board, Pavee Lackeen is an intimate portrait of a resilient and spirited young girl and her proud and dignified family. Set in the Traveller community, the film presents a tough but luminous portrayal of a marginalised group often living in poverty in a modern, prosperous Ireland. Filmed with a cast of mostly non-professionals, the film uses Travellers depicting lives near to their own.
Director Perry Ogden gave his reaction to the announcement: "I am absolutely delighted to be selected for Toronto. I really am excited to see how an international audience will react to the film and to be included in the Discovery selection is a thrill".
Pavee Lackeen gets its Irish premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh on July 8 ahead of its North American premiere in Toronto. Irish films have an excellent track record at Toronto with 'Omagh' and 'The Magdalene Sisters' both previously scooping awards at the festival.
