da Vinci to introduce revival upgrade at NAB

da Vinci Systems is to launch the next generation of its revival film restoration system at NAB 2004.
This fourth version of revival will feature a number of enhancements, including upgrades to the auto balance controls of the colour enhancement module, improvements to the automatic scratch and stabilisation tools and refinements in the system's open-standards access to DPX files.
"Since the introduction of our first colour corrector in 1984, we have continually pushed to develop new products and refine our existing systems to best address the challenges facing our customers in the television, film, and digital intermediate markets," said da Vinci Vice President of Marketing and Product Management Matthew Straeb. "The fourth version of our revival system illustrates this commitment by introducing new features that promise to reduce production time while placing increasingly powerful tools in the hands of today's top creative professionals."
With the latest version of revival, users receive the improved colour enhancement module as part of the standard automatic package, which also includes dirt, scratch, grain, deflicker, and stabilization tools.
The colour enhancement module includes new white, black, gain, lift, and gamma auto balance functions and finer manual RGB controls. The colour module also now maintains colour balance while the master gain, lift, and gamma controls are adjusted.
The revival is an open-file system, providing users with direct access to DPX files on a local hard drive or network server. This feature enables the operators to process files without first importing them to the local file system. The revival is designed to perform collaboratively with the company's Server Interface Option for an efficient workflow with the da Vinci 2K colour enhancement system.
Other new improvements to revival include customisable hotkey mapping and new reveal brush enhancements that allow users to paint in texture and grain. The automatic stabilisation feature now includes a tool for reducing heavy foreground motion that differs from any background instability. With this feature, users can steady title sequences that include varying background motions or stabilise locked-down camera shots with foreground motion.
The revival's automatic scratch tool also has been updated with additional menu selections and improved processing of single-colour scratches.
