Fastnet Film Festival Announces New Guests

News Image
Fastnet has announced Maureen Hughes and Jim Sheridan will attend this year's festival, which takes place in Schull, from 25 – 29 May.

Maureen will run a two-day casting workshop on self-taping techniques, as well as be in conversation with Jim, entitled 'Direction to Casting'.

Self Taping is becoming an essential tool for an actor due to the ever-changing developments in the world of casting. Maureen's workship aims to develop the actor's skills in mastering the technique, and will be of benefit to those hoping to audition for productions in Ireland and further afield.

It is aimed at emerging and more experienced actors, 15+ years of age. During the two days, the actors will shoot one-to-one auditions with direction and critique from Maureen, as well as be able to view their work on a cinema screen with evaluation. Other topics include framing, sound, lighting, performance, packaging and delivery.

The cost is €100 per person and places are limited. To book, visit

Maureen Hughes is a Casting Director, and over the past 20 years has worked with emerging writer/directors Martin McDonagh Garry Hynes, John Carney and Jim Sheridan to name but a few. Her work on Irish television includes 'Love Hate', 'Raw', 'Charlie' and 'Clean Break', as well as Paolo Sorrentino's 'This Must Be The Place' with Sean Penn. Alongside her partner Shimmy Marcus, Maureen currently runs Bow Street Academy for Screen Acting in Dublin. Mentors include Gerry Grennell, Jim Sheridan and Irish actress, Fiona Shaw.
